PE Extra Curricular Activities
We are delighted when our students make the commitment to be part of our extensive school extra-curricular programme, practices and teams
There is a huge variety of sports and a multitude of teams available to pupils. Practices are open access for all pupils regardless of ability; the ethos within PE is that you come to practise regularly to improve and have fun. Teams are selected based on several factors including regular attendance at practice, willingness to listen to coaches, determination and perseverance to try new skills, teamwork and co-operation, ability, behaviour in school (not just in PE lessons!) We have a strict policy that ‘If you don’t train, you don’t play’ which is adhered to in all but exceptional circumstances.
It is a real privilege for students to have the opportunity to represent our school. The Knights Templar PE Department is very proud of this and we hope the students are too! Alongside the privilege of representing school also comes responsibility to both team-mates and the teacher/coach. We therefore ask that pupils ensure they give 2 days/48 hours notice to their coach if they are unable to participate in a fixture, and inform their coach at least 24 hrs notice/day before if they cannot attend training. To avoid confusion, we ask that pupils always speak personally to their coach if they cannot attend practices or matches rather than passing a message via a friend. At Knights Templar, we believe that a school fixture should take priority over club training.
Fixtures and Practices
As far as possible at the start of the season we will issue pupils with a Fixture list. We highly recommend that pupils write all fixtures in their planner at start of season. However, it is important to note that fixtures can change, often at short notice, and additional fixtures may be added in during the season. A list of weekly fixtures can be found on the school website.

Developing leadership skills in pupils is a key feature of the PE department and of the Knights Templar School. We therefore like our team captains to take responsibility for their team – this may include them collecting team sheets after training, on the morning of the match check team during registration, find replacements for any absentees, seeing their team coach at break to confirm all the team is still able to play.
Occasionally fixtures will be cancelled, for example due to inclement weather or the opposition being unable to field a team. Pupils will only be told by the teacher of their team or the Team Captain if a match is cancelled. If they are unsure they should always double check with the PE Department. We always aim to give pupils and parents as much notice as possible of cancellations, although this is not always possible.
Trips and Visits
The PE department runs numerous trips to sporting events as well as sports tours and visits to top class facilities and universities. Examples include The Olympic Park Velodrome, Loughborough University (A Level & BTEC PE), Lea Valley white-water rafting, 20-20 Cricket at Lords, Stevenage FC, National League Basketball and many more.
